Which page are you viewing? One Tube Shortwave Receiver

Comments:
Hi James!
My name is Mohamad, from IRAN and I'm 46. I passed my Radio Amateur exam successfully and waiting for my call-sign approved. I'm interested in transistor radios. I saw your one tube shortwave receiver and hope to make my own radio with my "PCF802" tubes (not now, in future!) [smile], 73

This brings back memories of my teenage years and my dad and my uncle.
Both were hams who were 17 and 18 years old, respectively, when this type xmtr was in use.

Hey,
Very nicely made antenna tuners. The antenna switch is also very nicely made. I wonder what the insertion loss is, and the isolation between the contacts?

I like this switch, but I wonder where to find a switch
for the core of it.
Do you have a manufacturer and model number?

Nice work...I think I would add VR tubes for screen supply.

Nice looking setup. I haven’t built anything for several years. I lived in Texas for thirty years but moved to Louisiana and Mississippi forty one years ago. Have a few old radios, but like the old boat anchor HT-37 the best.
Thanks for the HOTDXS Workbench.

COVID-19 has resulted in me setting up a card table in the family room, building a variety of QRP tube transmitters, with varying results. Yours is next on my list. The power supply seems to be the challenge - B+ either too low or too high. I may check out your single-tube receiver and associated power supply as a remedy to this.
I am presently completing a 1625 CW transmitter with 12BY7 oscillator. Coming up with the 250 VDC plate voltage for the 12BY7 was a challenge until I added a 12 VAC transformer backwards, rectifying the 117 VAC primary and coming up with 250-260 VDC!
Glad to see the projects out there. Some of us old-timers have been hoarding boxes of tubes for occasions just as this.

Which page are you viewing? Antenna tuners / transmatches

Comments:

To think I was going to spend near $100 on a tuner / transmatch! I've got loads of coil forms in a box waiting to be turned into projects. But not a 500 pf varicap.....

Thanks for publishing!
