Great website and very nice projects.
I restore R390 series receivers and noticed you had paired one up with a QRP xmitter. I am glad that I am not the only one nuts enough to make that match..Hi

dear sir,
I came across a 5u4 in my junk, and a 6x4 to make a dc power supply. After the info you gave going with 5u4. recently got into building my own stuff from the junk laying the ham shack. am having fun building my own rather than buying. Your info has helped me more than you will know 73 wb3kyj

room for a presentation at a ham club meeting. Thanks.

I found a short article in QST regarding the AC-1 and was interested.  I have found your comments and revised circuit very helpful.  I have a separate high voltage power supply, so my version will be different again !   I should be on 40M with the Transmitter very soon.  Thanks again.

Hello all,
This is a great site to visit.  And beaucoup kudos to James Tobola for his assistance in getting my 6AQ5 project (the one on this website, of course) off the ground. Been off the air for 45 years, and now I'm back...with this rig.  Best wishes,  Frank

You might be interested in trying my JFET differential regenerative with triodes. Perhaps there would be less loading of the LC circuit because the grids would actually be negatively biased.  I think in the usual tube regenerative circuits the gird has zero or slightly positive bias which may contribute to giving tubes the correct compressive gain curve that allows smooth regeneration. And also aids in detection.  You would have to add a third detector tube though.

Hi guys, Just to let you know I completed this little transmitter  and my second cq was answered from Chester , a city about 120 miles away from me with a 559 report,  this is my first attempt at a valve rig and I was running just one watt out.  Wonderful, keep up the good work , many thanks. Interesting transmitter.  I built this same circuit which was featured in the March 1956 issue of Popular Electronics and was called the "Sandwich Box Transmitter", as it was constructed on a 25 cent plastic sandwich box.  You are correct about the lethal voltages.  This transmitter darn near killed me as I was tuning it.  I didn't have an insulated knob for the tuning cap.  As I was adjusting it with a screwdriver, my fingers slipped down onto the metal shaft and my left hand was touching the metal on my J-38 key.  Whamo!!! I saw stars for a while.  It was another lesson learned by a young kid.  Once tuned, it was a great little transmitter.

Thank you James for your kind words, but it is by your contributions that make all my efforts so much easier and enjoyable. With this entry I can now see that the divider image works....nice.

Welcome all to the Heart Of Texas DX Society where it is both HOT and COOL at the same time.
